About me...

My name is Yomi Ayeni, I live in London and have worked in the media for about 25 years. I am a black male, 5ft 10 inches, shoulder length dreadlocks and have what some friends have called a dazzling smile.

I was born in London and spent my formative years with foster parents in Littlehampton, Sussex. My love affair with media started in Nigeria, where I attended Christ's School, Ado-Ekiti, ever since music and radio have been an integral part of my daily routine. My radio career was launched in Ibadan, where within a week of my first audition, I was presenting the lunchtime show on state radio.

I returned to London in 1984 and I joined London Weekend Radio, a pirate station broadcasting from a council apartment in South London. I soon became Controller of Programmes, presenting several 'Soul Music' programmes including the early morning breakfast show. Though still at school, working for a semi-professional radio station gave me a better understanding of broadcast media and helped my school work - I was studying Media and photography.

When I left school, I got a placement at the Polytechnic of Central London to study Radio Journalism. My DJ'ing hobby continued and in 1989 I launched Tone Def Records - a label that was instrumental in developing the 'drum and bass' music genre. I produced 30 records, many of which had underground and commercial chart positions.

After graduating from college, I got a job as Researcher for BBC Radio One's 'Drug Alert' campaign. I co-produced the talkshow and spent almost a decade working for the corporation, notching up production credits on Radio 4, Radio One, BBC1, World Service and BBC News 24.

From the BBC, I was recruited to become Creative Director for Rapture TV's conceptual travel adventure television show called "E-Trippers" - the UK's first reality TV programme. My involvement with the Reality TV genre led to several jobs developing similar projects, one of which won the "Best use of New Media in a TV Programme" broadcast award.

It's 2007 and I am Creative Director of Expanding Universe Productions.
